Practice Gratitude !
March 25, 2018
I learned in one of the trainings that one can develop positive thinking by writing 'unique' positive thoughts every day. My teacher Aadil talked about an assignment that was given in the past to write few 100s of positive things every day - few 100s of UNIQUE positive things! You are not allowed to repeat any positive thoughts. This wasn’t my assignment, but something about it stayed with me for a few months and one fine day I decided to take it up and do it myself.

You may call it journaling. I wrote everyday for at least a few positive things - yes, just a few to begin with. First few weeks it was easy to add positive things around me and to keep them unique. When the obvious things were noted in the list, the challenge began.

Then every day, during the day, I started observing and looking for positive things around me. Sometimes it was a flock of birds flying in the morning that made my heart melt, other times it was as simple as finding the sunglasses when the sunlight was directly streaming in my eyes while driving! Simple, right? But unique! More than unique, you see - now the mind is being trained to look for positive things - to feel grateful for even the simplest things in day-to-day life! I was amazed at how the mind pours positivity by this simple exercise.

So, I continue to do this exercise daily. I write at least two unique positive things.

Over a period of few months here is what I have learned -
1. It is so simple to train the mind to think positive.
2. Merely writing each day is not enough. 'Feel' grateful for things that you wrote today. Take 1 minute to really feel grateful several times during the day.
Mind thinks but it is the heart that feels. So take a minute to connect with your heart and really 'feel' grateful for these things. Bring this feeling in your breath. Let it travel to all parts of your body. Who knows, it may help to get relief from aches and pains.
Give it a try! There is always something to be grateful for! Something unique!
